Online comments after Ireland v Wales

A selection of the “keyboard warrior” reactions after the full-time whistle of our featured matches of the weekend.

If you’d like to contribute stay tuned to our Facebook page for our “Feel free to leave your thoughts…” posts which show up around full time after Leinster & Ireland matches.

Conor Cronin Wales were awful. Let's just have that there for starters!

Ireland were mostly positive, if they can stop giving away stupid penalties and protect each other in the ruck they'd be doing far better. Then get more clinical. Finish those chances in the 22.

You take the win, you build on the positives and prepare for a tough day next Saturday

Brian McKeon (replying to Conor Cronin) I’m still trying to figure out if they were awful or we were good. Wales came out firing on all cylinders second half.

England will be a good test.

Paul Smith Some great takeaways from ths game. Doris was outstanding, Lowe was electric, POM had a superb game, Porter demolished their pack and JGP had a fantastic game at 9. Wales are as poor as I've ever seen them and we left some scores behind us, but a 20 plus win against any Tier 1 international side is a good nights work in anyone's books.

Lee O Farrell Great to see Ireland playing such a fast and varied game. Lots of work to do around the edges (eg penalty count & lineouts) but I think this team has huge potential.

Hubert Gallagher Very mixed performance. Mainly good but we left a lot of scores out there and need to be more clinical. When you dominate like we did (and also against France in the first half) you need to rack up the points. We let Wales back into the game in the 3 quarter by too many penalties and turnovers.

I fear for our bench front row against England next week. It’ll be a different challenge . I think we should keep our back 3: 10 is a real issue if Johnny not available although Burns did well but if he’s out as well then....???

Choices also to be made in second row. Roux was really dominant in the scrums today and made Porters job much easier. Back row full of competition - maybe bring Stander in at 6; Doris at 8 and start Connors?

Just glad I don’t have to make those decisions!

Dรกithรญ Browne JGP got the line moving with amazingly fast delivery. 10 will be a worry, Byrne was fed to the wolves last time with an under strength team.

Lowe did what Lowe does!!! Excellent but starved in the 2nd half

Gerald Williamson Although we won well, there were miss try scoring chances that we should have taken. With some new faces stepping up to the mark we will need to vastly improve against England next week. Some excellent plays from Dorris, POM, Lowe, JGP and Porter stood out for me. Scrums were good, lineout still needs tweaking and need to cut down the pen count.

Hywel Davies (replying to original question 'Feel free to leave your thoughts on Ireland v Wales') I’d rather not like...

Kieran Cooney Happy with the performance. Wales and the ref was harsh enough on them too. Neither weren't great. They looked for answers but The Irish defence held when required. Too many penalties given away and if we carry into the English like that they will turn us all day. A good foundation to build off. Overall Happy with the result. Important for the team and management.

Garry Wynne Something very dark and mysterious seems to be happening in Welsh rugby at both club and international level.

My first instinct is we should help, but then I remember they didn't vote for Ireland to host the World Cup. Let's leave them to the dogs and focus on the Scottish resurgence.

Richard Mifsud It’s been a bloody long time since Ireland made me jump off my seat in excitement at their playing style. Tonight I jumped off my seat more than once and most magnificently ๐Ÿ˜‚when James Lowe dotted down. It was a typical new team melding together display. We played beautifully in patches and messed up in basic stuff in others. The Welshies didn’t offer too much other than the third quarter which we contended with. My MOTM was actually Jamo who played a blinder IMHO. J Lo was brilliant in the first 40 but quiet (not his fault) in the second half until his try. I really believe Faz (+ team) is now coming through in the play. Much less predictable and greater freedom of movement. Almost Leinster like at times (sorry). Need to improve for the England match which will be the real litmus test I’m looking forward to. Keenan looked good at FB. Awesome to see Keith Earls back ๐Ÿ˜Š. All in all a good win over a poor Wales team. Had this team played together longer it might have been a very long night for them. By the way who was our third string 10 some guy called Murray I think ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Tony Doyle Lacklustre second half and a good try for Lowe

Gav Heg Pivac won't be involved in the six Nations, very poor Wales. For me motm was Jgp, brought a new speed to the backline. Murray is the past. Rhys Carr won't play international again and will have nightmares about porter, who should buy him breakfast.

I'm excited to see what Amazon can do tomorrow, I'm expecting a lot!

Darragh O'Hanrahan Great game, great performances by the newbie's, hopefully the start of some future leaders within the team

Niall Moonan Always good to beat the Welsh ๐Ÿ˜œ, we left some scores out there and Wales wee poor but we had alot of young lads playing and Johnny went off early so you have to be happy also no trys against. For me it's all about WC 2023 fed up of being great leading up to it and then..... ๐Ÿ˜ž ๐Ÿ˜ž ๐Ÿ˜ž ๐Ÿ˜ž

Andrew Potts Good overall result against a Welsh team that has lost its mojo. Now its just scrum, scrum, scrum in prep for England.

Henry Sellars 1st half, stats wise, awful for Wales with little return for Ire. (10pts at the break?) Clever double teaming to stop Healy x 2... agreed with RTE gang on 3rd Q going lame for us slightly. JGP my motm. Great interchangeablity in squad going on.... Different game next week. Big hitters up to bat.... #COYBIG

Roy Thompson Wales were shite; we were better. Better than them; better than we were in Paris. That's good enough for now! Next week will tell more.

Cian ร“ Muilleoir Yes, Wales were terrible, at least for the first half.

Yes, we didn't score as many tries as we might have.

Yes, our captain went off with a hamstring injury.

However. JGP gave quick clean ball without. Our set piece was looking better than it has in a while, Porter with a specialist TH lock behind him is a weapon. Lowe looked dangerous pretty much any time he was on the ball, on his international debut. Good+ performances for most players, and some exciting ones. A bit of niggle in the first half as well, I love to see a bit of bad guy come to the fore. And there's more evidence of an evolution in play that's creating those chances, more license to play ball.

We didn't finish the chances as I'd like us to, but I believe that will come. In the meantime it gave me great comfort to see the pragmatism of taking 3 after 3 to put the game to bed. That's knockout rugby mentality, and that's what wins games in the balance.

Alan Murphy Big scoreline flattered the scores we left on the pitch. England won’t let us past their defence so we need to take all our chances. If we let England into the game like we let Wales for the 3rd quarter then they’ll thump us. Some great individual performances though.

Many thanks to all who offered opinions.

Look out Monday for our match writeup JLP
