Rugby Europe update by Ciarán Duffy

Yesterday Rugby Europe handed down its verdict after an investigation into the incidents following the Belgium v Spain  World Cup qualifier.  Five players were banned for periods ranging from 14 (threatening actions/words at a Match Official) to 43 weeks (physical abuse of a Match Official and verbal abuse) and the punishments are effective immediately.  Click here for the full text of the ruling.

Back to action on the pitch...Luxembourg claimed the Conference 2 North title.  They beat Finland 45 – 5 in Stade Jossy Barthel, Luxembourg City in front of a crowd of 1,300.  Adrien Timmermans and Guillaume Kimel got two tries each, with Gauthier Bares, and Charles Stone also touching down.  Fly-half William Browne converted some of the tries and kicked a penalty. Winger Samu-Peterri Paakko got Finlands try.  Luxembourg are away to Norway next in two weeks time, Finland have two games remaining, they play Denmark at home then Estonia away in May.
In the Rugby Europe Development league Bulgaria won away to Montenegro in Stadion kraj Bistrice in Nikšić.  The visitors won 0 – 57. In two weeks' time Montenego go to Turkey, before Bulgaria host Turkey a week later.  Petar Nikilov kicked 17 points and got a try. Bulgaria got a eight tries. The result does not impact the world rankings because Montenegro are not a full member of World Rugby.

Next Week's Fixtures:

Rugby Europe Trophy
Czech Republic – Moldova

Conference 1 North
Hungary – Lithuania

Conference 2 South
Slovakia – Serbia
