Online comments after Leinster v Benetton

Conor Cronin Not an incredible performance, but a BP win in Europe is job done. Some good positives, and some things to work on. Felt from the south stand that the ref has zero control on the game, and that makes it difficult too, but happy to move onwards and upwards

Paul Smith Did what was needed with a 5 try BP win. Excellent hat trick from Ringrose and Kelleher continues to impress. Treviso purlt up a good fight but got away with Murder at the breakdown, constantly offside, killing the ball and one or 2 very questionable calls from the ref wrt to some of the penalties awarded. Stil, it's always goog to start with a BP victory but plenty of room for improvement next weekend where hopefully Leinster can bring home another 5 points.

Martin Loughrey Doing it the hard way but 5 points are 5 points. Need to watch the high tackles as they could be very costly. Far too many arms over the shoulders in the tackle. Kelleher continuing to impress. Need a much better performance in next week. (Especially as I'll be at that match 😉)

Cormac Mannion Thought the returning RWC players were well off the pace bar VDF and Ringrose. Gotta feel for Dorris having to leave so early with the head injury but thought Deegan was very good after he came on. Dare I say it but I thought we played a bit too much like Ireland for a lot of the game - too many pick and gos. Dave K butchered a couple of try opportunities by taking the wrong option.

Anyway, 5 points to start off and I wouldn't be at all surprised if Benetton beat either Lyon or Saints at home. Thought their pack was very beefy.

As for the ref, I hate people who complain about them but he was very raw today. Got into the wrong position a good few times and missed quite a few indiscretions under his nose. Also his touch judges seemed very reluctant to intervene in a number of occasions. There was one occasion in particular when a Leinster player was tackled high right in front of the TJ. The ref didn't do anything until the crowd how's with rage and then he asked the TJ if a foul had been committed. The TJ almost seemed reluctant to answer...

One last thing: our discipline was appalling. Too many careless penalties.

Sandra Seery Was at the match but always look forward to watching again when I get home. Imagine my annoyance to discover I now have to pay for another sports channel to watch the Heineken cup matches. We were getting by sports in Ireland as part of eir sports weren’t we??? When did that change.

Richard Mifsud Always had this as a home win but never by a huge margin for a variety of reasons but primarily because Treviso are a bloody good side (more on them later) and we were feeding in the internationals who can't be in the best state of mind following on from the RWC to which you need to add settling into the Leinster Rugby way, calls, systems etc. Against that backdrop to get a BPW whilst hardly on the back of a workmanlike performance I'm pretty happy. Perversely I'm far happier with the challenge we were faced with. All season I've been after seeing the boys confronting a strong test and this has been the strongest challenge thus far and we came out comfortably on top. Undoubtedly a lot of work to do for LC, SL, FC and RMc, which I'm sure they're relishing. We'll be better next outing. as to individual players obviously Garry Ringrose Official was easily our best player but others put their hands up JVDF, Ronan Kelleher, Rory O'Loughlin and Max Deegan. Caelan Doris had a very good opening quarter until he had to come off. Some players pretty quiet especially James Ryan who needs a big hug (he's been off all year). Onto Treviso. I though they played very well and had some of those moves come off the game might have been closer. They will certainly upset Saints and Lyon. Final word on the reffing of the breakdown I thought they were allowed to slow the ball overly much TBH. Generally the reffing team was pretty good. I have a question for you Jeff. It wasn't obvious from the telly but was our defence a bit too loose between the 22s? Pretty solid when set but it seemed we were intent on flying up to destabilise them i.e. a very aggressive attacking defence. If it was it looked helter skelter but it was certainly disrupting their play. Anyway solid enough start, work to be done #COYBIB

Derek Tormey Messy. Very messy. But a five pointer none the less. Hopefully that run out will help integrate for the big test next week

Noel Hewson Benetton are a pesky team they hang around. You take any bonus point win first game up in Europe. The breakdown was a bit messy so will need to clean that up for next week.

Tom Clarke Room for improvement. Especially in defense.

Paul Lacey Very messy because the internationals are back.

Alex Clarke Damn treviso got better . Really showed they deserved to be there tonight

Alastair McDermott Fuckin freezin

Many thanks to all who offered opinions.
