Online comments after France v Ireland

A selection of the “keyboard warrior” reactions after the full-time whistle of our featured matches of the weekend.

Conor Cronin Lots of people likely to say the early try was costly, I think if you put that aside, it was all the early penalties that were most costly to ireland today. It was never going to be an easy win, but gifting that many 3 point opportunities was criminal. I think a steady head and some good decisions in the last 2 minutes might have got us there, but we'll never know! Good to see a decent performance without Sexton. And some good individual performances.

I would like to see Ryan be much, much more vocal. With the team and with the ref. The one time he was we got a penalty at the next offence. If he'd asked about the offside line perhaps the backs would've had more space.

Brian Corr I think unfortunately France found the flaw in our game plan and let everyone else know where to target us.

It’s not really new news but they showed it works and how it’s done. Teams with fitter players will do it for 80 mins.

I know JGP had speed removed from his supply but I still felt he gave a few too many bad first passes to the feet and over the shoulder which continues the back foot we were on all the way into the second half.

Was there a French foot in the ruck just before their second try? I know it came out off an Irish one but before that?

I think this was an exceptional game to come away with a bonus point considering all the pressure we were under.

I also thought in the first few line outs the French hands were all over the jumper and touch judge didn’t help the ref.

Richard Mifsud  Given our poor start, to put in that 2nd half performance and have it in the balance going into the 80th is certainly encouraging We lost, we’re not the finished article but guess what, games like this one are part of that journey Really pleased with that LBP #FRAvIrl #COYBIG

Neil Keegan That was tough. Not our best. Big liathroidi shown but silly mistakes. Everything left out there. Sometimes you’re 100% on the day is really 75%. If you’re not operating at your best against France, they’ll flatten you

Emma Hempenstall I wish we would stop criticising this wonderful team. They are developing and have come a long way. Sure they have made mistakes and have loads to learn but they are doing their best. It's not an easy task going to Paris. Let's sing those boys praise and cheer them on to the next game.💚💚💚

Ronan McManus The best team on the day definitely won.

We didn't get the result (and we are *slightly* flattered by the score) but we were playing the best in the world (change my mind) away from home, and getting a severe test without Johnny Sexton has to be good for the team.

We put two into the rucks, they put three (four, by weight) and we lost them. I hope the system has the flexibility to adapt to that, because England (and anyone we might face in the knockout stages of the RWC) will be a similar challenge up front.

Losing BP and denied them a try BP.

MON IRELAND!
MON FLAKY FRANCE!
#BELIEVE

James Griffin Fair play to the team - they stuck at it and could have done it at the end but that first half was telling. I thought that this would be the first meaningful challenge to the Irish fast ruck / quick ball game and so it transpired. They need to find a way to counter bigger, more physical sides, to complement their game plan.

Tom Clarke We were bad at the breakdown. And a lot of very sloppy errors. That said France are an excellent side and Dupont is an amazing player.

Johnny was a big loss which is not a good thing considering his age!

Sharon Murphy First half cost us but great spirit shown in second half. Dust down on to the next game.

Sebastian Brennan Can we finally stop pushing for Joey Carberry and Conor Murray please? Both proved useless today and their decision making costed us a game.

Noel Hewson Hard test match. Slow start was costly. Much better in the 2nd and in with a chance at the end. Hard place to win and they went close while not playing at their very best.

Iain O'Connor STOP KICKING THE DAM BALL AWAY

Many thanks to all who offered opinions.
