Irish Rugby captain Jamie Heaslip joins Leinster Rugby Head Coach Joe Schmidt and Irish rugby legend Tony Ward to promote Irish schools Umbrella Rugby 7’s 2013
Following the success of the inaugural tournament in 2012 the Umbrella Rugby 7’s tournament returns on Saturday March 2nd 2013, in Terenure College, Dublin. Hosting the best of Irish schools rugby in a fun and entertaining event this year’s competition expands inviting teams from all four provinces competing in Under 17 and Under 15 categories.
Irish captain and Leinster Rugby star Jamie Heaslip joins Leinster Rugby Head Coach Joe Schmidt and Irish rugby legend Tony Ward to promote this year’s tournament which hopes to see over 300 players take part and support the fact that all proceeds on the day going to The Umbrella Foundation Nepal an Irish charity that rescues abandoned, trafficked and orphaned children in Nepal.
Last year’s tournament saw Newbridge College fend off the best of Irish schools to be crowned overall cup winners showcasing an exciting tournament that provides schools players an added layer to enjoy and participate in rugby.
Speaking about last year’s Umbrella Rugby 7’s: Ireland, Leinster Rugby and The Umbrella Foundation patron Jamie Heaslip said: “It’s fast, fun and entertaining. We had a lot of school rivalry but it’s all in good spirit. There are a lot of activities for players and people not playing and it’s just a great day out”.
Commenting on playing sevens rugby, Irish Rugby Legend Tony Ward said: “Sevens rugby provides the opportunity for players to appreciate space, exploit space and improve individual skills development. To sum up sevens rugby and what to expect at Umbrella Rugby 7’s is skill, fitness and most of all fun. Sevens rugby is the way forward.”
