Americas Rugby Championship Round 5 by Ciarán Duffy




Chile 17 – 33 Canada

Chile's losing streak in the ARC has extended to 14 matches.  Canada started the better with a penalty from Gordon McRonie, then a try from Kainoa Lloyd.  Chiles only score of the first half was a penalty from Ianiszewski. Canada got two further tries, from Lucas Rumball and Kyle Baillie, both were converted by Ronie.  

Canada had to players sent to the bin in the second half, Nick Blevins and Luke Campbell.  McRonie kicked a penalty to extend Canadas lead. Davis touched down for Canada past the hour-mark.  Chile got two tries late on from Urrutia and Excobar, Ianiszewski converted both. McRonie kicked a late penalty for Canada.  Chile have still never beaten Canada.

Uruguay 19 – 61 USA

USA completed the grandslam as they claimed their 2nd successive ARC title.  Uruguay had been on a 14-test winning run, which included wins over Canada in a play-off to qualify for the 2019 World Cup.  

Lamborn and Te’o got early tries for the visitors, both were converted by Magie.  Magie then converted tries from Fawitt and Augspurger either side of a penalty try.  Uruguay had Arata sent to the bin midway through the first half. Germishuys got another try for USA late on in the half.  

In the second half Te’o got his second with Magie converting, before Arata and Cat got over for Uruguay, with Albanell converting.  Whipy went over for USA moments later. Mieres got a late try for Uruguay, the last score went to the visitors, Wooching touched down with Cima converting.  USA are now on a 10-game unbeaten run in the Americas Rugby Championship.

Brazil 8 – 28 Argentina XV

None of the games involving Argentina XV are full internationals, and therefore players aren’t awarded caps.  

Zapata got the games first try, Gonzales kicked the conversion.  Reeves kicked a penalty for Brazil to get them on the board soon after.  Argentina XV had Benjamin Espinal sent off in the 35th minute.  The two sides exchanged tries late in the half, Ezcurra touched down for Argentina XV, Gonzáles converted, Canterle got over for Brazil.

Early in the second half Ureta crossed over for the visitors, Gonzáles added the extras.  Resino got over the line for Argentina XV, once again Gonzáles converted. Argentina XV finish 2nd overall.
