Athboy RFC logoAthboy RFC is a progressive junior club based in Co Meath and we are looking for Senior Players to join our club.

The clubs Senior XV has been very successful over the last 4 seasons reaching 4 North East League Finals and winning 2.Reaching Quarter Final and Semi Finals of the Anderson Cup(J3) and Dunne Cup(J4)

Next Season the 1st XV will be the Newest Member of the Leinster League Division 3 and our club objective is to field a 2nd XV in the North East’s Magee Cup. We have a strong panel of players and we are hoping to add to this season and over the next few season.

Our Coach

Next season we have retained the services of our head coach Len Ethell. This will be Len’s second year at Athboy RFC and has worked extremely hard with player development last season. His direct coaching at a high standard has encouraged new and old players to return playing at Athboy RFC and with his continued involvement in the club this season we hope more players will take up this rugby challenge. Len has spent most of his coaching career at Mullingar RFC where he had been involved in underage sides as well as the clubs 1st and 2nd sides, Indeed his first involvement in coaching at adult level was as assistant to current Ireland Head Coach Joe Schmidt during his time as Mullingar’s head coach. Len has also been Director of Coaching at Portarlington RFC, Senior Coach & Head of Coaching at Wilson's Hospital School and spent a season as Technical Director and National Team Coach of the Malta Rugby Football Union. The New Zealander spent his playing career at scrum half for clubs like Marist Auckland and Ponsonby and at The St Helier Club in the UK, has IRFU Levels 1, 2, 3 Coaching qualifications as well as a Diploma in Sports Psychology.

Our Players

Our senior players come from large areas in Meath/Westmeath and Dublin. Although we are Athboy based, players are mainly from the surrounding areas Trim/ Ballivor/ Kildalkey/ Mullingar/Navan / Clonmellon/Longwood and we have players based in Dublin. Our team has an age profile of 25 and has a mixed group of players from different background that have one thing in common – Rugby.

The senior panel will commence pre-season training in the last week of July and we are looking forward to seeing new faces take up this rugby challenge. The Club has entered the Leinster League Division 3 (J1 Rugby) and North East’s Magee Cup (J3 Rugby) and is actively recruiting new and past player to join at this exciting venture in the Club History. Details on training times will be posted on Facebook, webpage, twitter and in local media.
