There is to be an early rematch of the Pro12 final and this time it WILL be a home tie for Ulster, writes Kristian Ross…
Ulster Rugby announced on Thursday morning that they would play provincial rivals Leinster at the newly developed Ravenhill on August 23rd.
The pre season friendly will be the first game at the ground since the newly built Aquinas and Memorial stands have been constructed. Ulster fans will be able to get their first experience of sitting in the brand new ends and what better way to do it against the boys in blue.
The new stands have increased the capacity at the Belfast ground up to 13,500 and the eventual capacity will reach 18,000+ once the new main grandstand is completed by the 2014-15 season.
It means that Ulster will finally be able to host key European matches and domestic finals at Ravenhill instead of having to choose optional venues such as when the RDS in Dublin was nominated as the home stadium this year for the PRO12 final.
The Ulstermen will be sure to look for a good victory over Leinster following the disappointing defeat in the PRO12 final in May and of course the 2012 Heineken Cup final at Twickenham. Ulster have also confirmed a pre season friendly away to Aviva Premiership champions Leicester Tigers at Welford Road on August 31st.
With the PRO12 fixtures to be announced around the ‘’middle of the month’’ the Ulster faithful will learn who their side will play for the upcoming season as the modernisation of Ravenhill makes further progress every single day.
I’m sure that everyone is looking forward to it. September cant come quick enough for many. SUFTUM.
