So far so good for Ulster

Three games into a new PRO12 season for Ulster Rugby and if you had said that we’d have twelve points after three games and were unbeaten, I think most fans would have taken your hand off.  I certainly would and with eleven tries scored and the leaky defence seemingly sorted after our latest win over the Cardiff Blues at the Arms Park, things look to be coming along nicely.

There’s still a fair amount of uncertainty around Ravenhill (or The Kingspan Stadium if you prefer) at the moment. Neil Doak has been tipped by various papers including the Independent for the top job, as Les Kiss departs under a shower of praise from the players. Franco van der Merwe, Louis Ludik and Wiehann Herbst all are settling into life at the province nicely and have showcased their talents from the get go, which can only be a positive factor. The injury list isn't too unsettling yet, Iain Henderson and Dan Tuohy both out, but do we need to worry? The last two seasons have seen so knocks to players and we’ve always shown incredible strength and resolve.

It’s fair to say that Ulster still haven't hit top gear yet this season, minor kinks to be worked out, evident in the results against both Zebre and the Scarlets, but with a brand new set up and numerous faces out the door over summer, it’s a transitional period for the province and the fans know it.

As each week goes by, the inaugural European Champions Cup creeps closer and Ulster can only prepare by laying down a marker in the PRO12 in a group that includes RC Toulon and Leicester Tigers. It’s time to stand up and be counted before the harder fixtures come thick and fast, but with plenty of talent in a team that are passionate, proud and hungry for success, there is simply no reason to believe that Ulster can’t mount serious league or European challenge this season.

Now lets watch it unfold…
