Hundreds watch on as George Ford, Joe Launchbury and Jonathan Joseph join Worthing Raiders RFC for one-off training session and intimate Q&A
Worthing Raiders RFC played host to a training session with a difference last week, as a stable of England Rugby stars visited the club to congratulate them on their victory in the Samsung Try of the Season 2014/15 competition.
Samsung ambassadors George Ford, Joe Launchbury and Jonathan Joseph joined over 40 players from the National League 2 South club as England coaches, Ian Peel (U’20s Head Coach) and Jon Callard (National Performance Academy Manager & International Performance Coach) put the players through their paces.
Watching from the touchline, a crowd made up of hundreds of club members, friends and family were accompanied by ex-England International Ugo Monye who introduced the players upon their arrival to the excited spectators and served as a host to the evening’s activities.
Attendees, including strong representation from the club’s junior and mini sections, then joined the squad inside the clubhouse for the chance to quiz the England players and grab a memorable photo of the night.
England player and Samsung ambassador, Joe Launchbury commented: “I actually played for Worthing back in 2009/10, so it’s been great to come back to a club I know well with JJ, George and the coaches to pass on some of the experience we have from international rugby. They have a lot of young players, so hopefully it will help with the rest of their season and who knows it might help them produce another epic try for this year’s competition.”
Worthing Raiders RFC were crowned winners of the inaugural Samsung Try of the Season competition after their brilliant team try touched down by Jamie Redmayne came top of an online public vote for entries from the 2014/15 season on EnglandRugby.com. In addition to the training session, Worthing Raiders RFC received £1,000 worth of Samsung technology installed in their clubhouse.
“The training session this evening will go down in our history”, commented [Matt Farnes, Worthing Raiders RFC]. “It’s brilliant to see so many of the players, family and friends here to enjoy this special occasion for the club. We hope we can put the invaluable knowledge passed on to good use on the pitch for the rest of the season. A huge thanks to Samsung for organising it all and for the upgrades to the clubhouse”.
Benjamin Blanco, Head of Sport & Entertainment Marketing, Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland added: “Samsung Try of the Season is all about celebrating the brilliant moments captured in rugby every week across the country at all levels through our partnership with England Rugby. We are pleased to have been able to create a special evening for Worthing Raiders RFC including bringing Joe Launchbury back for one last appearance! We would encourage clubs up and down the country to get involved in the Samsung Try of the Month competition for their chance to win Samsung’s latest technology or even an experience such as this.”
