Hartley’s absence did little to diminish Northampton’s trademark physicality and thanks to the likes of Wood and Picamoles they built a 12-9 lead after 55m. The game was then turned on its head in every sense as Waller saw yellow (to accompany Ashton’s earlier alleged bitemarks) for his challenge on George who then got the game’s first 5-pointer. A penalty try later put the result beyond doubt but Leinster must prepare for a bruising back-to-back battle with the Saints in December.
