Namibia claimed the title last weekend but relegation was still to be decided in the final round of the 2017 Rugby Africa Gold Cup.
Uganda 38 – 12 Zimbabwe
Uganda beat Zimbabwe in a game of poor quality with a real end of season feel to it. The Cranes deserved the win which sees them finish 3rd overall with Lawrence Sebuliba getting a hattrick. Zimbabwe scored first before Uganda took control. Bryan Asaba got the first of Ugandas 6 tries. Sebuliba, Philip Wokarach, and Aaron Ofoirwoth all got over the line to ensure Uganda picked up a bonus point. Zimbabwe got a second try just before halftime to make the scoreline read 26 – 12.
The second half was largely uneventful, but there were two more tries, both from Sebuliba. Zimbabwe went down to 14 late on as they failed to add a score. A game littered with mistakes petered out in what was a disappointing clash that had the potential to be a good game.
Tunisia 26 – 18 Senegal
Senegal were relegated as Tunisia ensured they remained in contention to qualify for the World Cup. Senegal barely showed up in the first half as Tunisia took a 19 – 3 lead at the break.
The two sides exchanged tries early in the second half to make the score 26 – 8. Tunisia went down to 14 as Senegal started to come back. Pompidou Mendy touched down for their second try, he just managed to get it down before going over the deadball line. It looked like Senegal got over again as Captain Ndiaye got over on the left, but the try was not awarded for a forward pass. They did have a penalty advantage which they scored to make it an 8-point game. Senegal still needed two scores, but Tunisia held out to win.
Senegal will now play in the 2018 Rugby Africa Silver Cup.
