Just two games survived Storm Emma this week, both taking place in South Africa. Here’s a round-up of those two games with some information on the rescheduled fixtures. Yes, I do still get paid the same amount.
Toyota Cheetahs 26 – 25 Connacht
Cheetahs won with a last-minute penalty as Connacht left South Africa with a losing bonus point when a win was in their hands. Cheetahs opened the scoring with a try from Uzair Cassiem. Niel Marais converted, and then kicked a penalty. Matt Healy got over for Connacht, Jack Carty added the conversion. Marais kicked a penalty either side of Matt Healys second try before Carty kicked a penalty late in the half. Cheetahs led 16 – 15 at the break.
Carty kicked a penalty to open the second half, before a try from Eoin Griffin, converted by Carty, had Connacht in control. Rabs Maxwane got over for Cheetahs on the hour-mark, Marais converted. With a minute to go Marais kicked a late penalty to give Cheetahs the narrow victory.
Southern Kings 45 – 13 Dragons
Southern Kings got their first ever Pro14 victory, with a try bonus point, over a young Dragons team. Dragons took the lead with a penalty from Dorian Jones, who then touched down and converted his own try. Luzoko Vulindlu got Kings on the board with a try, Kurt Coleman converting. Jones kicked another penalty for Dragons. To close out the half Masixole Banda got a try, converted by Coleman.
In the second half it was all one-way traffic. Vulindlu got hi second, before Ruaan Lerm got over the line. Coleman converted both tries before adding a penalty. Anthony Volmink and Bobby de Wee both added to the try haul for Kings, Coleman added the extras on both occasions.
Rescheduled Games
Scarlets – Leinster will now take place Friday 9th March at 19:35. Edinburgh – Munster will be played Friday 16th March, kick off at 19:35. Ulster – Glasgow Warriors will take place Friday 20th April.
At time of writing Zebre – Ospreys and Cardiff Blues – Benetton are yet to be rescheduled. Cardiff Blues are the only team out of those still involved in Europe.
