Online comments after Montpellier v Leinster

A selection of the “keyboard warrior” reactions after the full-time whistle of our featured matches of the weekend.

Conor Cronin A cracking start to the competition for leinster. A strong performance across the park, the only thing that looked to be stopping the great work was occasional knock-on (knocks-on?!)

Rhys Ruddock is the best performing forward in Ireland right now!

Edited to add that Ciarán Fawley also continues to impress and leinster should work to keep him in the fold

Richard Mifsud I’m really struggling not to simply say ‘Veni, vidi, vici’ but that’s how it felt. When I saw the team I was delighted Leo and Stuart kept faith with the backbone of the PRO14 team and boy were they vindicated. What does this do? I was worried about the jump to Champions Cup from PRO14 after our ‘easy’ journey in the latter thus far. I needn’t have worried. I think I now fall on the side that Leinster are very good rather than our opposition in the PRO14 is poor. Our ‘second string’ now know they can compete at this level. Montpellier are no mugs but we didn’t give them a look in. A very professional display achieving a BPW in France...no mean feat. Standouts Rhys...again (this is getting boring 😉), Luke McG, Robbie, Ciarán and the rest of the team 😂😂😂

Paul Smith Really impressive start to the campaign. Brilliant to see so many of the newbies making a mark on the competition and from the first minute it only looked like 1 side wanted and were capable of tte win. The only disappointing thing was the horrible camera work on BT sport, it looked like it was been televised by a 10 year old with a camcorder. Still have to be a very happy Leinster fan this evening on a job well done.

Cian Greally Ruddock should be the first name on the Ireland team sheet when we play France, south africa or England. Brings a different level of physicality then the rest of the back row options

Gav Heg Im sure I'm not along at being surprised at the selection but after a think saw the logic. I love how much faith Leo et al have in their squad and the squad rewards this by performances like this. Each man stood up to Montpellier, even the smallest man McGrath tried to bosh his way through such is their belief in themselves. I just love European rugby!!!! Bring on the Saints.

Anyone else notice how the BT commentators constantly got Ruddock and toner mixed up?

And funny how Scarlets can go away to Bath and win after being stricken with covid not so long ago?

Noel Hewson Solid start. Ruddock in serious vein of form and deserving MOM. Great to get some experience at European level in some of the younger guys. Dan Leavy continuing to look good.

Tom Clarke Great away win and BP. A lot of so called 2nd choice players really put their hands up.

How Ruddock is not in the Ireland squad is a mystery!

Chris McDonnell Not playing Ruddock v Saracens was a massive mistake. Leo never make that mistake again please. It's such a pleasure watching Leinster.

Garry Wynne Leinster's non-internationals have clearly been better trained on attack than the Irish national team has.

Kevin Kelehan Will be going down the road to Marseilles if that standard is maintained without lapses all season.

Pádraig Turley Top marks to the coaches, took nerve in an away game to leave big names on bench. Bent seems to be playing his best ever rugby.

Many thanks to all who offered opinions.

Look out Monday for our match writeup JLP
