No prizes for guessing which player our Ulster columnist Kristian Ross is most excited to see this season…
Tommy Bowe has and always will be my favourite player. The 28 year old from County Monaghan has of course just re-signed for Ulster from Ospreys having came off the back of a tough season last year.
Bowe's season ended prematurely following a haematoma that had found it's way into his kidney and raised his blood pressure. Consequently it meant Bowe missed the end of the season at Ospreys who went on to win the title. It must have been hard for Bowe to sit and watch as Ospreys beat Leinster in the final, ending his stint in Wales watching from the sidelines.
Bowe was also a big miss from the squad that was taken to New Zealand with Simon Zebo of Munster taking his place. Needless to say, I thought Bowe was a big miss for the NZ test series, having had a fantastic Six Nations, scoring against Wales running France ragged and ending up top try scorer for the tournament. His technical ability and flair is fantastic, but it's his pace that I love and will look forward to seeing as he pulls on the new Ulster shirt. In a recent interview Tommy said when he left Ospreys that he wanted to return to Ulster, the winger clearly showing that Belfast has a special place in his heart. And as we look forward ahead to the new campaign hopefully, his season will end up with him top try scorer in the PRO12 and with a seat on that plane for the Lions 2013 tour in Australia.
Go Bowe!!!
