Americas Rugby Championship Round 1 by Ciarán Duffy



Canada 29 – 38 Uruguay

This game took place last week and doubled as a World Cup qualifier, you can read the recap here.

Chile 14 – 16 Brazil

Chile took the lead with a penalty try in the 6th minute.  Josh Reeves kicked a penalty for Brazil 10 minutes later, then converted prop Jardel Vettoratos try.  
This was the first time Brazil beat Chile in Chile.  At halftime Brazil led 7 – 10.  Reeves extended Brazils lead in the 2nd half, kicking two more penalties.  Chile got back into it with a try from Nicolás Garafulic, converted by Tomás Ianiszewski.  Brazil held out to be Chile in Chile for the first time.

USA 17 – 10 Argentina XV

USA came from behind to beat Argentina XV.  The USA won last years edition of the ARC, while Argentina XV won the year before.  Argentina XV had Juan Cappiello sinbinned early on.  USA took the lead with a penalty from Will Magie.  USA then went down to 14 with Titi Lamositele sent to the bin, Juan Cruz González equalized for Argentina with a penalty.  They’d have a 2nd player binned when Cam Dolan was shown yellow, Argentina XV took advantage, scoring a try through Santiago Montagner, González converted.  Argentina XV led 3 – 10 at half time.  Magie kicked an early penalty for USA, before Tony Lamborn got over for a try.  Two further penalties from Will Hooley saw USA win, with Argentina XV taking a losing bonus point.  

None of the matches involving Argentina XV in this tournament count as full internationals.
