USA 18-28 JPN (8-0-review)

by Ciarán Duffy

The last pool game of RWC15 was a largely back-and-forth encounter, which saw Japan become the first team to win 3 games without progressing. It was the US who started better, with MacGinty knocking over an early penalty, but Matsushima replied immediately with a try. Ngwenya and Fujita exchanged scores while Goromaru kept the Eagles at arm’s length. Mafi’s try secured another victory for a spirited Japan. A late Wyles touchdown couldn’t prevent the US going home with 0 points.
