Challenge Cup Pool 3 Round 1 review



Pool 3
Pau 27 – 21 Gloucester
2015 champions Gloucester could only take a losing bonus point away from their opening game as Pau ended their run of 13 losses in a row in the Challenge Cup.
Daniel Ramsay opened the scoring with a try, converted by Colin Slade, who touched down seven minutes later as Pau went in at halftime 14 – 0 up.
Slade added two more penalties in the first ten minutes of the second half. Gloucester would get back into it with tries from Ackermann and Vellacott. Each team would score one more try, Halai for the hosts, and Purdy for the visitors. Agen 45 – 10 Zebre
Agen were comfortable in getting their 16th win in 17th games against Italian sides in European competition.
Paula Ngauamo got the first of their 7 tries Lamoulie kicked two penalties to add to a second try from Miquel. Zebre had only a penalty from Palazzani to show for their efforts in the first 40.
Sadie and Fouysaac touched down to increase the home sides lead, but Sarto got one back for Zebre minutes later. Palazzani converted it, which would be the last score of the game for Zebre. Lamoulie got two tries in the last 20 minutes, with Conduche also touching down. Agen top the group, with Pau in 2nd. Gloucester are 3rd, Zebre are bottom.
