Japan suffered from a short turnaround, and Scotland took advantage. The Scots benefited from a lack of discipline and simple mistakes from the Japanese in the first half, with Laidlaw kicking them in front. Scotland successfully countered the Japanese maul, although the brave blossoms did manage to touchdown once from that platform. Goromaru made an outstanding try-saving tackle to prevent a Scottish try, but Mark Bennett touched down twice in the second half as Japan tired while Scotland attacked ruthlessly.
